Summer is a great time to study Mandarin in Beijing. There are summer courses at top-ranked universities in China specializing in immersion courses and cultural studies. Many American universities have high-quality exchange programs and study abroad tours for students, professors, and other interested parties who wish to take Mandarin language classes. Although summers in Beijing can be humid, it's a great time to meet people. Chinese people enjoy getting outdoors in the summer, and this lends itself to wonderful opportunities to socialize and learn the culture.
Besides wanting to study Mandarin in Beijing, I want to meet the local people. A summer day in Tiananmen Square is a ripe opportunity for doing so. A trip to the Great Wall also seems like a great idea. These two things are definitely on my list of things to do while in Beijing.
